WRRA 2026 Summer Picnic, Cabin Tour, and Highway Cleanup

Summer Picnic

Silver Springs Campground, Group Picnic Site

Saturday, July 25, 2026 starting at 12:00 pm

We are looking forward to seeing WRRA cabin owners and families Saturday, July 25th, at the Annual Summer Picnic.

Once again, the event will take place at the Silver Springs campground, at the Group Picnic Site. The picnic includes food, drink and lots of fun. We are hoping for another successful pie contest, and once again there will be lots of games including sack races and a tract tug of war!

The WRRA Picnic is free for WRRA members and their nuclear family. Extended family and guests are welcome and encouraged; non-members, extended family and guests will be charged $10 for each adult, children under 12 free. WRRA will provide grilled hamburgers, hot dogs, and chicken with all the trimmings. Beer and wine (for those over 21) and nonalcoholic beverages will also be provided.

Please Register and Pay fees in advance, to aid in the planning and check-in process,
by going to the WRRA website reservation and payment portal at: WRRA Events

Help: Many volunteers will be needed! We need help before, during and after the event to make this successful. Help is needed with setup, prep and cooking, cleanup, and more. To help, please sign up to volunteer at https://www.signupgenius.com/go/10C0C44ABAD23ABFF2-64321564-wrra or email president@wrra.net.

Parking: Parking is extremely limited at the picnic site, and is prioritized for support vehicle and disabled; please try to carpool, and if possible park in the Silver Springs cabin area and walk over to the site (the access trail will have directional signage).

Please bring a salad, side dish or dessert that will feed at least 8 people. Bring chairs and sun shades as needed for your family.

Pie contest: We need lots of entries to make it a fun contest - pull out your favorite recipe and bake a winner! Any and all attendees are welcome to enter the pie contest with a homemade pie of any type. Look for the Pie Contest table, drop off your pie there (not on the "dessert" table) along with a serving utensil, and make sure to fill out a form noting the baker name, tract and cabin, pie type, etc. Prizes will be provided in several different categories.

Pets: Please leave pets at home or at the cabin.

Schedule of Events will be as follows:

  • 10:00am – Setup
  • 12:00pm – Picnic Start (at the Picnic Shelter)
  • 1:00pm – Fire Truck Demo (over by the grassy area)
  • 1:30pm – Pie Contest (at the Picnic Shelter)
  • 2:00pm – Games (on the grassy area)
  • 3:00pm – Picnic End and Cleanup

Cabin Tour

Volunteer Cabin Hosts to be announced; a tour guide brochure and map to be provided

Saturday July 25, 6pm-9pm

The WRRA Annual Cabin Tour will again follow the Summer Picnic on July 25th. The Tour is a great opportunity to socialize and more closely appreciate the wonderful variety that makes up our WRRA Tract. Volunteer hosts provide a look into each cabin’s unique story and history.

The cost of the Cabin Tour is $10 per person or $20 per family/group, no matter how many members.
This nominal fee benefits the WRRA Cabin Defense Fund after expenses for the event itself.

Please register and purchase tickets in advance at the WRRA website reservation and payment portal at: WRRA Events

The Cabin Tour will include a brochure with a map showing the cabin locations, and cabin descriptions, which will be provided at check-in at the Summer Picnic to paid attendees. The Tour begins at 6:00 and will last until 9:00 pm.

Note: We still need a few cabins TO HOST a tour stop. It can be rewarding and fun to open up your cabin; the only requirement is that someone be there to show people around, share history, and answer questions. It’s a great way to participate more fully in the community if you will be attending the picnic weekend! If you are at all interested or have questions, please contact Anne Schopf at anne@aschopf.com.

Highway Cleanup

Sunday July 26, starting at 10am.

Meet at FS Road 73 / Huckleberry Creek Road, on the road next to the "Mt Rainier Viewpoint" parking lot

The group of volunteers will sign in and be split up to work on sections of the highway between there and our cabins.

It is a short and easy 60-90 minutes of effort, walking along the highway picking up trash, and a great way to meet and socialize with your cabin neighbors!

Garbage bags, reflective safety vests and signage, and a support vehicle will be provided. Please simply wear appropriate clothing, sturdy shoes, and bring a pair of work gloves.

Any adult helpers are welcome; WSDOT requires participants to be 15+ years old.

Lunch for all participants will be hosted after the cleanup.
